New Law change (2003):

The minimum age to ride without an adult present is now 14 years with OHRV safety course certifies. Those under 14 years with a OHRV safety course certifies can no longer ride without an adult. In short there is not grandfather clause for those under 14 years that have a safety course certifies. The safety course certifies will be good again after that person turns age 14 years.

The Merrimack Sno-Buds will, again, be presenting an OHRV snowmobile safety class (described below) on December 1, 2007 at Law Motor Freight in Nashua.

For those registered, please bring lunch and coats, riding gear is not needed.

Preregistration is required

The New Hampshire Off Highway Recreational Vehicle (OHRV) Safety Class is designed to introduce 12 - 16 year olds to basic OHRV safety.  The class is presented for either All Terrain Vehicles (ATV's) or for snowmobiles. Snowmobile safety classes are presented by volunteer members of the N. H. Snowmobile Association (NHSA) and it's associated club members.

The Merrimack Sno-Buds snowmobile club, a charter member of NHSA, has been presenting this class for several years. Topics include snowmobile safety features, proper storage, preseason checks, proper fueling and starting procedures, driving positions, snowmobiling handling, proper clothing, basic first aid, map and compass, rules of the road, snowmobile trail signs, accident reporting, registration, N. H. laws governing snowmobiling, a code of ethics and landowner issues and respect.

Students who successfully complete the 8 hour class and exam are presented with both a Certificate of Completion and an ID card signed by the club's Chief Safety Instructor and by Lt. Tim Acerno, the N. H. OHRV safety coordinator from N. H. Fish & Game. Also after successful completion, the 12 - 16 year old may legally cross a road with a snowmobile even though he or she does not yet hold a valid driver's license.

To be registered for either class, we are requesting a $10.00 donation per student to N. H. Easter Seals. Please send checks made out to N. H. Easter Seals along with the student's name to: (payment may also be made through Paypal to clubinfo@snobuds.com, sorry, charge cards are not accepted at this time)
