Riding?
Clubs - 118 in New Hampshire - There
are about 118 snowmobile clubs in New Hampshire. Some clubs are
very active and some aren't. Most clubs have a trail system
and some take really good care of their trails and well, some don't.
Some are social clubs and some are riding clubs.
Events - There
are many many events for snowmobilers.
- Snodeo
- The Colebrook Ski-Bees have a weekend
event late in the season that includes all kinds of activities
for the snowmobilier.
- Snow
& Grass drags - Starting in the
fall and continuing throughout the winter there are many drag
races for snowmobiles on grass, snow and ice. There is a
large grass drag and water
cross on Columbus day weekend every year.
- Ride-in
- The first weekend in February, a thousand
+/- snowmobilers will travel to the Ride-In
which benefits Easter Seals Camp Sno-Mo. This is a fun filled
weekend for snowmobilers of all ages, and over the years the Snowmobilers
have presented Easter Seals with about a million and a half dollars
to support Camp Sno-Mo.
- Snowcross
- Snowcross is racing on a closed race
course with mounds, rough trails, and valleys.
- Water
Cross - Water cross is racing on open
water. Races are drag races, oval races and jumping.
See the grass drags site: NHGrassDrags.com
for more info.
- Poker
runs - Clubs set up runs where
the snowmobilers must follow a predetermined course and stop at
several check points to draw cards. When the run is over
the 'hand' is turned in and there are usually prizes for the winning
hands.
- BBQ -
There are Clubs that sponsor BBQ's.
You either ride into the site by Snowmobile or drive there and
use that site as your starting / ending point for the days rides.
The club will put on a feed for a modest charge.
- Rides -
Clubs plan rides for their members.
You all meet somewhere and either start riding your snowmobiles
from that point or trailer to a place to unload and then go ride.
- Trips
- Clubs will also plan overnight trips
like going to northern Maine or to Canada for several days of
riding. Some of the trips start in one town and then you
travel by snowmobile for several days bringing your 'luggage'
with you and staying in a different town each evening. Then
you return to the point where you started.
NHSA (New Hampshire Snowmobile Association)
- NHSA is the state wide organization
that binds the clubs together. They sponsor the Grass Drags
and Water Cross and the Rise-In. They also provide lobbying to support
Snowmobiling in the State of New Hampshire.
Family & Friends - Snowmobiling
is a great activity for the whole family. It gives you a chance
to get out in the woods together and enjoy a nice day of recreation.
Alone (Not Recommended) - It
is much safer to travel with other snowmobilers. For every
1/2 hour you drive into the woods its about an 8 hour walk out should
your machine break down. It is safer to have a friend with
you that can go for help if the need arises.
